Correct hole spacing determines whether a cabinet pull can be installed without redrilling the panel. It is especially important for furniture replacement, renovation programs and standardized cabinet production. Even a small measurement error can cause tilted handles, visible old holes or installation delays across an entire order.

Understanding Cabinet Pull Hole Spacing

Cabinet pull hole spacing is measured from the center of one mounting hole to the center of the other. It should not be measured between the inner or outer edges of the holes. Center-to-center measurement is commonly expressed in millimeters, although some markets also use inches.

Overall handle length is a separate dimension. A pull measuring 140 mm from end to end may have a 96 mm center-to-center distance. Using the total length as the mounting dimension is one of the most common causes of ordering errors.

Replacement and New Furniture Orders

Replacement projects should begin with the existing drilled holes. Remove one pull and measure directly between both hole centers. When the measurement is uncertain, buyers can photograph the pull beside a ruler or send an original sample to the supplier.

New furniture programs offer more flexibility. The selected spacing should reflect:

  • Drawer and door dimensions

  • Expected opening force

  • Handle proportions

  • Cabinet design language

  • Drilling equipment settings

  • Regional hardware preferences

Small drawers often use knobs or compact pulls, while wide drawers may require longer brass cabinet pulls for balanced appearance and convenient gripping. Very long handles may also need additional structural consideration to prevent movement under repeated use.

Why Samples Sometimes Fail to Fit

Installation problems may occur even when the nominal spacing appears correct. Possible causes include drilling tolerances, angled threaded posts, inconsistent casting, deformed samples or measurement conversion errors. Thick coatings around the mounting area can also affect seating.

Buyers should specify an acceptable dimensional tolerance on the technical drawing. A mounting template or test fixture can then be used during incoming inspection. For large production runs, checking only the overall length is insufficient because it does not verify the actual mounting points.

Information Needed for Bulk Orders

A professional RFQ should include a drawing that marks center-to-center spacing, overall dimensions, projection, base size and thread specification. Panel thickness and required screw length should also be provided.

When working with a cabinet pull bulk supplier, confirm whether mounting screws are included and whether different screw lengths can be packed for different cabinet panels. Packaging labels should identify the model, finish and spacing so installers do not mix visually similar pulls.
